Tulips

When you see this card which is the first country that comes to your mind ? Mine ... Netherlands !!  I was partially right cause it was from Rotterdam but actually depicts Mount Vernon , Washington , in the Northwest extreme of US and more specifically Tulip Town which a farm specialized in Dutch national flower founded by a Dutchman many decades ago . State of Indiana

and last but not least an official from USA and the State of Indiana . Great to receive a map card . At the back of the card it states : THE HOOSIER HERITAGE QUILT, collaboration between Indian Department of Natural Resources and the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service , features quilt blocks made by winners from each Indiana county , placed together . The official state quilt is a tribute to Hoosier pride and to the participants ! In case you are wondering what is a Hoosier - like I did - I should mention that is the official name for an Indiana resident .People from California are Californians and from Indiana Hoosiers ( and not Indianans :D ) as the state's nickname is ' Hoosier State ' !! Stonington ( Maine ), USA

The first people to live on Deer Isle, as early as 6,100 years ago, were Native Americans. Their descendants were known to early French explorers as Etchemins; some continued to live on the island even after Anglo-Americans established settlements. The first European to venture into the region was Estevan Gomez, a Portuguese working for the Spanish Crown. Gomez sailed his ship La Anunciada up Eggemoggin Reach, which divides Deer Isle from the mainland. The French, however, would be the most active in the region, establishing a fort in Castine and intermarrying with Abenaki natives. A body buried in full armor (believed to be French) was discovered on nearby Campbell Island. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,152 people, 502 households, and 326 families residing in the town. North Dakota , USA

Another US state added to my collection,  North Dakota . It is situated in the US- Canadian borderline border by Manitoba & Sasketschwan ( Canada ) to  the north , Minnesota to the east , South Dakota to the south and Montana to the west ! It is one of the less populated States and it has a relatively large population of Native American Indians and their teepees (those tents you see )are used by the tribes of the great plains . They are made of animal skin & wooden poles

Salt Lake City , USA

Another beautiful card came all the way from Utah , thanks to Sierra. After her breathtaking card of Monument Valley in the Utah Desert , she sent me the most famous landmark of her city and that is the main LDS ( Mormon ) temple . I'm not very religious person myself but I always have a fascination for religious buildings, no matter which religion/denomination they represent. And this temple looks indeed amazing.  It looks very different from "mainstream" Christianity churches . No crosses, no icons , no statues, only an angel with a trumpet on the top. If I remember correctly it's the angel Moroni who according to LDS faith appeared to Joseph Smith Jr and revealed the Golden Plates to him and from these plates J. Smith translated the Book of Mormon into English. As for the interior , not much can be said as it is not open for the public , only LDS members and not even all of them , just the "worthy" ones can enter this building ( and any other LDS temple oround the world )

Detroit , USA

Detroit is the largest city in the state of Michigan. I always somehow confuse which one is bigger with Chicago , reminding then to myself that Chicago is at the shores of Lake Michigan and not in the State of Michigan , but in Illinois :D

So here you are one card with some views of the city ( I chose this for the bridges :D) plus a card showing some really beautiful lighthouses in MIchigan . Chicago , USA

Chicago is located on the southwestern shores of Lake Michigan. It is the 3rd most densely populated major city in the US . The city is also known as a center for businessand financeand is listed as one of the world's top ten Global Financial Centers. This according to the back of the card .... and for Chicago Bulls I would add :) Many many thanks to Dylan for this card of "the Windy city " :)

Richmond , USA

Another private swap ( I'm greedy I know ) this time card came from Richmond, Virginia . Wiki helps me once more and states that : The Virginia State Capitol is the seat of state government in the Commonwealth of Virginia, located in Richmond, the third capital city of Virginia. It houses the oldest legislative body in the Western Hemisphere, the Virginia General Assembly, first established as the House of Burgesses in 1619.

The capitol was conceived of by Thomas Jefferson and Charles-Louis Clérisseau in France. Although it was completed in 1788 and is over 215 years old, the current Capitol is the eighth built to serve as Virginia's state house, primarily due to fires during the Colonial period. In the early 20th century, two wings were added, leading to its present appearance. In 1960, it was designated a National Historic Landmark.

San Francisco , USA

This is an official one coming from California ! Although this kind of cards isn't a top priority for my collection  , I actually love this one :) It is showing the Victorian Houses of S.F also known by the locals as " Postcard Row" The writer Alice Walker lived in one of them for a few years . They became famous when a TV sitcom " Full House" showed them in its opening credits. Vey beautiful card , thank you Jeanne !

Utah , USA

Who is bleaching my US postcards ?? :( It is the 2nd card I get from US and both of them have some white spots on the front side ... Do they take a dive in Atlantic before they get here?

The card is super beautiful nonetheless and it comes from Utah , which I guess it's one of my favorite States . It shows Monument Valley (Tse Bii Ndzisgaii in Navajo language ) in Utah desert ! It located on the Arizona -Utah state line within the range of Navajo Nation reservation accessible from U.S Highway 163 ( I'll try to remember this if I ever get there :D ) It has been the location for shooting numerous scenes for films and TV series ! No wonder why it seems so familiar ! Absolutely love it!!!  Thanks Sierra :-)

Idaho USA

From Russia to United States and to the state of Idaho , specifically :) Card came a little bit destroyed , but I like it anyway . I love the less known states more than the trendy ones :D  Three Island Crossing is a state park of Idaho , used by pioneers as a part of Oregon Trail until 1869 when Gus Glenn built a ferry across the river about two miles upstream . Salt Lake City, Utah

I'm happy , happy ,happy :) After my complaints about post offices' delays last night , today my first two cards were registered so that means that the first 2 cards are coming on my way ( wonder where from ). I even arranged a private swap with the German lady so it has been a great day ! In the meantime here is one of my most special cards from Salt Lake City , Utah in the U.S. It's written and stamped and sent from SLC , from a dear friend from Italy , when he moved from his native country to Utah ! This beautiful city was founded by Brigham Young and his fellow Mormons in 1847 on their way to the West ! Today it's a city of about 1.145.905 people , it still the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (as the Mormons are officially named ) but only about the half of SLC population are members of the Church ! Before Mormon settlement the tribes of Ute, Paiute and Shoshone had dwelt in the valley for thousands of years .
On the top left of the card you see the Salt Lake Temple which is the biggest and most famous of Mormon Temples,  it took 40 years to complete, it's  the 6th temple completed by the church and the 4th operating temple built after the Mormon exodus from Nauvoo, Illinois !

Trail lake - Moose Pass Alaska

Here is another card I have received recently and I think it's my 1st postacard from Alaska ever ! ( I have to look through my albums but with this heat here ,it's not the right time !) However this postard did not come from Alaska but from my dear friend Silvana from Germany ! According to the printed text on the back of the card this is a beautiful blue glacier-fed lake located in a deep fjord like valley carved by the now receded Trail Glacier. It is situated 29 miles north of Seward on the Kenai peninsula . It is a favorite starting point for photography flights , day fly in fishing trips &remote cabin fly-outs. A world-famous bush and float flying school using Super Cabs is based here ... Vielen Dank Silvana !
