Old Amsterdam

... and here is on old card of Amsterdam sent as an official from Yvonne. Collecting old cards isn't a priority for me but that doesn't mean I'm not happy with this . After all it's a bridge card ;-)

Netherlands

With my poor knowledge on Dutch I think it says " Greetings from Holland ":D I really can't understand any Dutch except some words who are similar to German but what else can it possibly be written over there? :)
This colorful card is an official , thanks to Wilma , you can see tulips and bicycles which are so typical for the Netherlands and "Stroopwafels" :P Sender doesn't seem to like them very much but I'm sure I will love them if I'm ever given the chance to try them .I could try to make them myself but I don't know how the origianal tastes like so I'd better leave it for the moment. If you are brrave enough , here you are a recipe I took from allrecipes.com :

Original Recipe Yield 12 servings

Ingredients

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 255 g butter, melted
  • 150 g white sugar
  • 14 g active dry yeast
  • 60 ml warm milk
  • 1 egg
  •
  • 355 ml molasses
  • 295 g packed brown sugar
  • 75 g butter
  • 2 g ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, melted butter, sugar, yeast, milk and egg. When the dough becomes to stiff to stir, turn out onto a floured surface and knead by hand for a few minutes. Set aside to rise for 45 minutes.
  2. To make the filling, heat the molasses, brown sugar, remaining butter and cinnamon in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir to blend, and set aside.
  3. Preheat a pizzelle iron. Knead the dough briefly, and divide the dough into 2 inch balls, or a size compatible with your pizzelle iron pattern. Press the balls in the preheated iron, and cook until the iron stops releasing steam, or until the waffles are golden brown.
  4. Carefully remove with a knife or spatula, and split in half horizontally (like pocket bread) while they are still warm. Don't wait too long, otherwise they will break. Spread filling on the insides, and put the halves back together.

Footnotes

FOOTNOTE

  • If you can't split the waffles because they are too thin, just sandwich the filling between two waffles.

Veendam , The Netherlands

All I could learn is that Veendam is located in the northeastern province of Groningen. Lack of further info cannot stop me from liking this place sooo much . Love the canal which is typical for the area , and the orange color prevailing in the top pics ( No wonder why they are called oranje :D ) Dank je wel Alex

Someren , The Netherlands

Although new in postcrossing I have sent 4 cards to Netherlands already and still received none :P To fix this unjustice I arranged another private swap and these lovely cows appeared in my doorstep :D Someren -Eind is located in the South -East of Netherlands in the area of North Brambant ! A typical Dutch nature , fields , cows and windmills. Only some tulips are missing to complete my "stereotype" ( in the good sence of the word) of the Dutch countryside
Dank je wel Helga :)
