Split , Croatia

Two postcards from my Croatian friend Klaudija from her hometown Split ! One of them is the Cathedral of Saint Domnius or Sveti Duje as the locals call him and he is the patron Saint of Split . Klaudija wrote that this was originally a mausoleum for the emperor Diocletian built by him in the years 295-305. (St Duje was martyred in the persecutions by Diocletian )
The other card portrays Obala ( a neighborhood of Split I'd guess ) in the end of 19th century /beginnings of the 20th ! That fountain was removed by communists in 1940-50 and by the time Klaudija sent that card it was a subject very much talked about , so who knows maybe something similar is built !  Those palm trees are now HUGE !
* Cards are not stamped *
