It is the celebration by the Hindus to mark the victory of Lord Subramaniam over the demons and evil forces. It is also a day of penance, of thanksgiving fo the blessing and protection received and a fulfilment of vows. A devotee has to fulfill his vow on this special festival by carrying a kavadi which is a steel arch with long spikes that pierce into his body ....
